Body Mass Index

Learn your body mass index.

Body mass index (BMI, body mass index) is an estimate of the amount of fat in the body. Women and men are calculated on the basis of height and weight. If it is above normal levels, it means that there is an excessive amount fat in the body.

In the calculation of BMI; height to weight ratio is calculated and the ideal weight is calculated accordingly.

The Formula:
Weight/ (Height)x2 = BMI
Let’s see an example:
If a person’s weight is 100 kg and height is 1.80  BMI; 100/(180*180) = 0,003086 100 / 180*180 = 0,003086
BMI is: 30.86

According to WHO;
  • Underweight BMI is less than 18.5
  • Normal weight BMI is 18.5 to 24.9
  • Overweight BMI is 25 to 29.9
  • Obese BMI is 30 to 39.9
  • Morbidly obese BMI is 40 to 49.9
  • Super morbidly obese BMI above 50
